Arts & Culture Reporting

The Takoma Park City Newsletter

I write community news stories for the the City of Takoma Park, Maryland's monthly newsletter. I've covered the city's arts initiatives and written stories on artists. Most recently, I wrote a story on Takoma Park's growing community of authors for the cover of the September 2016 issue.

The Fairfax Times | The Gazette

I wrote music features, play previews, and stories on emerging businesses for these local papers until July 2015 when The Gazette folded and Whip It Media purchased The Fairfax Times. I interviewed “Glee” star Jane Lynch, David Crosby, Graham Nash, and other musicians for The Fairfax Times.

Zag Magazine

I profiled award-winning tattoo artist James Hughes for the inaugural issue of this free, weekly magazine in Montgomery County, Maryland (page 11). I paired my profile with a sidebar on tattoo maintenance and advice for those considering getting their first tattoo.

Brightest Young Things

I review concerts and contribute editorial pieces to D.C. culture blog Brightest Young Things. BYT published three editions of a celebrity poetry column I wrote, starting with an evaluation of actor James Franco’s “Directing Herbert White.” BYT also published a short essay I wrote to preview Wes Anderson’s 2014 film “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” As an intern, I wrote humorous, aggregated news posts for its "DC News You Can (Maybe) Use" section.

Washington City Paper

The D.C. alt-weekly published concert previews I wrote on indie rock acts DIIV, FIDLAR, and Kurt Vile in its “State of the Arts” 2015 Fall Arts & Entertainment Guide. I also critiqued Adam Sandler's "The Chanukah Song Part 4" for WCP's annual holiday series "The Sleigher."
